The Golden Avatar and the Festival of Colors (Holi)
Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486โ1534) is revered as the combined form of Sri Radha and Sri Krishna. He appeared in Sridham Mayapur, West Bengal, on the full moon night of Phalguna, during a lunar eclipse. His appearance brought the most merciful method of self-realization to the world: the Sankirtana Movementโthe congregational chanting of the Holy Names of God.
Because the Lord appeared on the day of the Holi festival, our Mandir celebrates with a grand Holi Utsav. We celebrate with colors, devotional songs, and the joy of spiritual brotherhood, marking the victory of devotion over all worldly obstacles.
Lord Chaitanya taught that the simplest and most effective way to connect with the Divine in this age (Kali-yuga) is through the chanting of the Maha-mantra. He emphasized humility, tolerance, and respect for all living beings.
The prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction moon.
He broke all barriers of caste and creed, inviting everyone to taste the nectar of devotion.
Every year, devotees gather for a special Abhishekam (ceremonial bath) of the Deities of Gour-Nitai, followed by ecstatic Kirtan that lasts for hours. The celebration concludes with a colorful Holi festival where devotees share the joy of the Lordโs birth through colors and Maha-Prasadam.
