Shubho Noboborsho: Welcoming the New Year with Prayer and Community
Every year in the middle of April, the **Gita Sangha** family gathers to celebrate Bengali Nababarsha. This day marks the first day of the Bengali calendar and is a time of renewal, reflection, and deep spiritual connection. It is an occasion where our cultural heritage and religious devotion meet to welcome the upcoming year.
The heart of our Nababarsha celebration is a special prayer service. We come together as one community to pray for the health, prosperity, and spiritual well-being of every family and for peace across the entire world for the whole year ahead.
A unique and beloved tradition at our Temple is the sharing of Pithas. On this day, every participant family brings a variety of traditional homemade Bengali cakes and delicacies—such as Pati Shapta, Bhapa Pitha, or Dudh Chitoi—to share with all attendees. This potluck of sweets symbolizes the sweetness and unity of our community.
Beyond the food and festivities, Nababarsha at the Temple is a day to cherish our "Social Life Values" on a spiritual platform. We dress in traditional attire, recite verses from the Gita, and engage in Harinam Sankirtan to ensure our new year begins with the names of the Lord on our lips.
